Rob's Satellite TV

WE HAVE MOVED! Our new website is at http://robssatellitetv.com

This website is here in the memory of Robert Evans, founder of Robs Satellite TV, who died on 21st July 2013, aged just 49.
His memory lives on in his creation, this website, and his work continues here and on the new site, helping people to learn about Satellite TV and to exchange information.
The community is still strong, we (Rob and I) had decided to move from webs.com to add new features to the website and make it better. Please go there and register. Regards, Paul Evans (Nephew of Rob).

MONOBLOCK

I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO READ THE "EUROPEAN TV RECEPTION" PAGE ON THIS SITE BEFORE READING ANY FURTHER

THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS TO GO MULTI SATELLITE, BUT FIRSTLY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT CHANNELS/SATELLITES YOU WOULD LIKE, ARE YOU FOREIGN OR HAVE A FOREIGN RELATIVE AND WANT SOME TV FROM HOME FOR THEM? ARE YOU LOOKING TO LEARN A LANGUAGE AND WANT SOME TV TO HELP YOU? ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOME FREE SPORTS OR FILMS OR SUCH LIKE? ARE YOU FED UP WITH PAYING SUBSCRIPTIONS?

THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE TO GO MULTI SATELLITE, ONCE YOU KNOW WHICH CHANNELS YOU WANT AND WHICH SATELLITES THEY ARE ON YOU CAN MAKE YOUR CHOICE ABOUT WHICH MULTI SATELLITE SYSTEM WOULD BE BEST SUITED FOR YOU.

THERE ARE THREE COMMON OPTIONS TO RECEIVE OTHER CHANNELS/SATELLITES, ON THIS PAGE I WILL EXPLAIN ALL THE OPTIONS AND ALSO GIVE SOME USEFUL ADVICE ABOUT SETTING UP THE SATELLITE SYSTEM YOURSELF.

1) THE MONOBLOCK - TWO SATELLITES ON ONE DISH  (COVERED HERE)

2) THE FIXED DISH - MULTI SATELLITES WITH MULTI LNB'S

3) THE MOTORIZED SYSTEM - ALL SATELLITES

FEEL FREE TO USE THE CONTACT ME OPTION AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE IF YOU NEED SOME HELP OR ADVICE,

THE MONOBLOCK -  TWO SATELLITES ON ONE DISH

THE MOST COMMON SATELLITES TO GET ON ONE DISH ARE 19 DEGREES EAST ASTRA 1 AND 13 DEGREES EAST EUTELSAT HOTBIRD, THESE SATELLITES ARE OF INTEREST FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS , TWO OF WHICH BEING THE AMOUNT OF FREE TO AIR CHANNELS BROADCAST ON THESE SATELLITES AND THE STRONG SIGNALS THEY THROW OUT FOR US IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD.

THE EASIEST AND MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO RECEIVE THESE CHANNELS ON ONE DISH IS TO PURCHASE A FREE TO AIR DIGITAL RECEVER WITH DISEQC SWITCHING INCORPARATED, A 80CM DISH, AND A 6 DEGREES MONOBLOCK LNB, MONOBLOCK LNB'S ARE TWO LNB'S IN THE ONE STAND ALONE UNIT, THEY COME WITH INBUILT DISEQC SWITCHING, SO YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO MESS ABOUT CONNECTING SWITCHES AND CABLES, IT REALLY IS THE EASIEST SOLUTION FOR A MULTI SATELLITE SYSTEM, SETTING UP A MONOBLOCK IS ONLY SLIGHTLY MORE DIFFICULT THAN SETTING UP A DISH WITH A SINGLE LNB.

MONOBLOCK LNB'S COME IN SINGLE, TWIN OR QUAD VARIETIES, SO IF YOU REQUIRE SATELLITE IN TWO ROOMS WITH TOTALLY INDEPENDENT CHANNEL CHANGING OPTIONS, GET THE TWIN MONOBLOCK, SAME APPLIES WITH THE QUAD MONOBLOCK, FOUR OUTPUTS FOR COMPLETELY SEPARATE VIEWING IN FOUR ROOMS NATURALLY YOU WOULD NEED TWO OR FOUR RECEIVERS TOO!

PLEASE NOTE - IT IS IMPORTANT YOU BUY THE 6 DEGREE MONOBLOCK TO RECEIVE 19 AND 13 DEGREES EAST ON ONE DISH (THERE ARE DIFFERENT MONOBLOCK LNB'S ON SALE WITH 4 OR 3 DEGREE SPACINGS WHICH WON'T DO TO RECEIVE THESE TWO SATELLITES)

ALSO MONOBLOCK LNB'S ARE IDEALLY PAIRED WITH A 80CM OR 1 METRE DISHES FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE, ALTHOUGH IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE A MONOBLOCK LNB WITH A 60CM DISH.

SO HOW TO SET UP A MONOBLOCK LNB INTO YOUR SYSTEM

FIRSTLY YOUR SATELLITE DISH NEEDS TO BE POINTING AT 13 DEGREES EAST , THEN YOU SIMPLY SWAP THE REGULAR SINGLE  LNB FOR THE MONOBLOCK LNB

WITH A MONOBLOCK LNB ONE LNB IS THE PRIME FOCUS AND ONE LNB IS OFFSET , SO IT IS BETTER TO ALIGN THE DISH , AS THE PRIME FOCUS SATELLITE , HOTBIRD AT 13 DEGREES EAST , THE SIMPLE REASON BEING THAT HOTBIRD IS THE SLIGHTLY WEAKER OF THE TWO SATELLITES , SO WITH ASTRA 1 19 DEGREES EAST BEING THE STRONGER OF THE TWO IT'S BETTER IT IS THE OPFFSET LNB.

THIS IS A PHOTO OF A TYPICAL 6 DEGREES MONOBLOCK LNB

I TOLD YOU EARLIER ABOUT THE IN BUILT DISEQC SWITCH , THIS ALLOWS THE RECEIVER TO SWITCH BETWEEN THE TWO LNB'S , THE LNB ON THE LEFT WILL BE THE ONE THAT GOES INTO THE LNB HOLDER ON YOUR DISH , THE INBUILT DISEQC SWITH WILL RECOGNIZE THIS LNB AS PORT 1 OR PORT A , THIS WILL BE YOUR 13 DEGREES EAST HOTBIRD LNB , NOW THE LNB ON THE RIGHT , THIS WILL BE THE OFFSET LNB , THE INBUILT DISEQC SWITCH WITLL RECOGNIZE THIS LNB AS PORT 2 OR PORT B AND IT WILL BE YOUR 19 DEGREES ASTRA 1 LNB ONCE THE MONOBLOCK IS IN THE DISH LNB HOLDER , THE OFFSET ASTRA 1 LNB NEEDS TO BE TWISTED UPWARDS SO IT RESTS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE PRIME FOCUS HOTBIRD LNB , THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT THE ASTRA SATELLITE IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER IN THE SKY THAN THE HOTBIRD SATELLITE.

SO NOW WE MUST ALTER THE RECEIVER'S  SETTINGS TO ALLOW IT TO SWITCH BETWEEN THE TWO LNB'S/SATELLITES  ,TO DO THIS YOU MUST SET THE RECEIVER LNB SETTINGS FOR THE MONOBLOCK'S INBUILT DISEQC SWITCH , THIS IS DONE BY ENTERING THE RECEIVERS INSTALLATION MENU AND GOING INTO THE ANTENNA SET UP OR LNB SETTINGS MENU, PLEASE NOTE  ALL RECEIVERS ARE DIFFERENT MENU WISE BUT THE SETTINGS ARE TO BE FOUND SOMEWHERE IN THE MENUS , ONCE YOU ARE INTO THE LNB SETTINGS MENU YOU MUST PICK THE SATELLITES TO SET THE DISEQC SETTING FOR, THE FIRST SATELLITE IS EUTELSAT HOTBIRD AT 13 DEGREES EAST, ONCE YOU HAVE SELECTED THIS SATELLITE YOU WIL SEE A DISEQC OPTION, WE WILL BE PUTTING HOTBIRD AT DISEQC POSITION 1, SOME RECEIVERS  CALL IT PORT 1 , PORT A , 1/2, 1/4 AND OTHER VARIANTS BUT IT'S ALL THE SAME , ONCE YOU HAVE SET HOTBIRD TO POSITION 1 WE NEED TO REPEAT THE PROCEDURE FOR ASTRA 1 19 DEGREES EAST PUTTING IT AT DISEQC AT POSITION 2 , OR PORT 2 , PORT B , E.T.C., ONCE THIS IS DONE YOU CAN EXIT THE MENU .

NOW YOU ARE READY TO SEARCH FOR CHANNELS  AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE WORKING OK , IF YOU DO FIND THAT THE SIGNAL STRENGTH AND QUALITY ARE NOT GOOD FROM THE ASTRA 1  JUST GO OUTSIDE AND TWIST THE MONOBLOCK UP OR DOWN UNTIL THE SIGNAL IS GOOD , THIS WILL USUALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM

SO THERE YOU GO , YOU NOW HAVE A TWIN SATELLITE SYSTEM ,  HAPPY VIEWING.
